East Africa Youth Forum 2012 Opens with YUSOM delegate attending
Asmara — East Africa Youth Forum 2012 opened today here in the capital under the theme "Active Youth Participation for Conflict Transformation and Regional Integration."
Representatives of youth institutions and organizations from the Republic of Sudan, Mauritius, Republic of South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, Egypt and other countries are taking part in the Forum.
Youth United for Social Mobilization (YUSOM)’s public relations and youth specialist Mohamed Ali attending the conferece, he will be featuring a lecture on the heating and challenging difficulties facing the Somali youth inside the country and overseas.
In a speech he delivered at the Forum, Mr. Yemane Gebreab, Head of Political Affairs at the PFDJ, underlined that despite its paramount resources, Africa has become center of different conflicts due to interventions on the part of external forces. He also stated that African youths should look beyond the prevailing quandary, believe in their own capacity and shoulder the task of developing their countries, and thereby ensure the continent's development.
Stating that the theme of the Forum involves a lofty assertion which youths in the region should consider, Mr. Mohammed Adem Mohammed, Chairman of East Africa Youth Forum 2012, noted that the African continent in general and the Horn region in particular is the origin of humanity, and that it is further endowed with human and land capital.
In solidarity messages they delivered, the participants of the Forum asserted that they would extend a helping hand towards ensuring integrated and sustainable regional development on the basis of bilateral and regional cooperation.
A number of research papers would feature in the Forum which would last until July 11 emphasizing the issues of active youth participation in conflict transformation and regional integration, politicization of justice in the Eritrea-Ethiopia border conflict transformation, ethnic conflict in the Horn of Africa - myth and reality, diplomacy and conflict resolution in the Horn region, Horn of Africa and the myth of "Global War" on terrorism, as well as the nature of conflict and conflict resolution in the Horn of Africa, besides the paradox of youth reaction to the causes of irregular migration in the Horn of Africa.
